In the book Esperanza Rising Esperanza lived on a ranch called El Rancho de Las Rosas.Her papa owns the ranch and they have servents that they pay to work.Esperanza pricked her finger on a rose and they say it's bad luck but she didn't believe it.So that night when her dad was suppost to be back he wasn't.And she found out he died.
